A 40-year-old man questioned by the police was found dead on Wednesday in a suspected suicide. The deceased was identified as Linto George Vadakkekkara of Kodenchera.
Linto, a truck driver, was found dead on the terrace of his house. The police had reportedly taken him into custody a day earlier in connection with the Kuttichira encounter to get information about one of the suspects.
Friends said Linto appeared to be under severe mental stress after being released from police custody. They revealed that he was not taken to the police station, but was instead driven around town in a police jeep for several hours before being driven home.
“He was terrified after the interrogation,” said one of his friends. “He kept saying the police were following him and treating him like a criminal.
The incident sparked public outrage, with relatives of the deceased accusing the police of harassment and psychological abuse. They claimed that Linto took his own life due to pressure and fear from the police.
An investigation into the circumstances of the death has been requested.
