A 33-year-old man died of electrocution while trying to rescue a parrot that ran into a power pole in a residential complex in Girinagar on Friday.
The victim, identified as Arun Kumar, a native of Nagamangala in Mandya district, had come to visit his relatives who live in the apartment building when the tragic incident took place.
According to the police, the mishap occurred around 9.30 am when the parrot escaped from the house and settled on a high voltage pole in the premises. “In an attempt to retrieve the bird, Arun tied a stick to an iron pipe and climbed the wall to reach it. While trying to rescue it, he accidentally came in contact with a live electric wire. The impact caused him to collapse instantly and he died on the spot,” said a police official.
The Girinagar police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the incident. Officials from the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) also inspected the site.
