
A 36-year-old business manager working with a telecom company was beaten to death by his wife and her family members over a domestic dispute in Kadugondanahalli on Tuesday.
The deceased, Mohammed Shakeel, a resident of AMC Road in KG Halli, was married to Raziya Sultan for 12 years. The couple, who have two sons, reportedly faced marital discord and filed for divorce, which was being heard in the family court.
According to the police, around 4:30 pm on Saturday, Shakeel and his father Mohammed Samiuddin visited Raziya’s brother’s flat in the flat behind Bilal Mosque to discuss the divorce settlement. During the meeting, Samiuddin is said to have urged Raziya’s family to finalize the settlement so that Shakeel can move on with his life.
The discussion reportedly turned violent after Raziya’s family members became enraged. Her brothers allegedly assaulted Shakeel and beat him with helmets even after he collapsed. Shakeel succumbed to severe head injuries on the spot. Samiuddin later approached the KG Halli police and lodged a complaint.
A case of murder has been registered against Zabiulla Khan, Imran Khan, Raziya Sultan, Fayaz Khan and Mubeena Taj. Police have arrested Zabiullah, Imran and Fayaz while they are trying to trace Raziya and Mubeen, a senior police officer said.
A man hacked to death
In another incident, an armed man allegedly hacked a 40-year-old businessman to death in Anekal on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Madesh, a resident of Kachanayakanahalli, was a native of Tamil Nadu.
According to the police, Madesh had gone to serve tea to the workers who were constructing his house when the assailant barged in armed with a knife and an air rifle, assaulted him and slit his throat before fleeing the scene. Passers-by who heard the commotion tried to stop him but the accused allegedly ambushed them and managed to escape. After receiving an alert, the Hebbagodi police rushed to the spot and recovered an air gun, a knife, a metal detector, a flashlight, a helmet and a bag left behind by the accused.
Fingerprint experts and a canine unit were deployed to assist in the investigation.
Police said Madesh had been living in Bengaluru for the past 15 years, running a cigarette shop and a supply shop and also owned a roadside restaurant. He was building a new house using the proceeds from the sale of his ancestral property in Tamil Nadu. His family members worked at the tea stall.
A special team was formed to track down the attacker.
