As part of intensified Christmas and New Year enforcement, the Kollam Excise Range team led by Inspector R. Rajith on Friday intercepted a narcotics shipment and arrested 40-year-old Akbarsha from Koikkal.
He was apprehended from the eastern part of the Koikkal temple in Kilikollur and officials seized 5.001 g of MDMA meant for distribution, which was concealed in a motorcycle. The crackdown followed reports of a spike in synthetic drug smuggling during the festive season, prompting heavy day and night patrolling across the district.
According to authorities, Akbarsha is a repeat offender with a history of multiple prison terms for cannabis and synthetic drug offenses. The accused was brought before the court and placed in judicial custody.
