In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Kollam excise department seized 6.05 kg of ganja during a targeted check in the Mekon Shivaji Mukku area.
The operation led by Excise Inspector P. Sankar resulted in the seizure of a vehicle used to smuggle contraband meant for local distribution.
Officials arrested 33-year-old Alshad S., son of Shahjahan, a resident of Noufal Mansil in Ayathil. A criminal complaint was filed against him under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. According to Excise officials, Alshad is a key figure in the inter-state drug network, which mainly transports illegal substances from Tamil Nadu-based syndicates to various parts of Kerala.
Following the seizure and arrest, the Excise Department launched a wider investigation to trace the roots of the supply chain.
