Man arrested with 53 kg ganja in Puttaparthi
The police arrested one person for allegedly transporting ganja and seized nearly 53 kg of ganja (in 24 packets) along with a car and a mobile phone.
Puttaparthi in-charge DSP Shiva Narayana Swamy said that based on credible information about ganja being transported in a car towards Gorantla, special checks were conducted near Pulagampalli Cross on the Kadiri-Bengaluru National Highway (NH-716G).
The car from Kadiri was stopped at the checkpoint and the police found two bundles in the trunk of the vehicle during the inspection. Police said they contained ganja and the driver, B. Venkata Ramana of Reddyvaripalli village in Nallamada Mandal, was taken into custody.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that the ganja was transported on the instructions of a person, Mallikarjuna, who is currently absconding.
