Police said since January, at least 102 people have been arrested in connection with the sale or purchase of narcotic tablets in the district.
A man from Rajasthan was arrested by the Pallikonda police near Katpadi in Vellore on Saturday for selling narcotic tablets (Tapentadol) to agents in the district.
Police said the arrested person has been identified as K. Pratap Choudary, 28. Initial investigation revealed that on a tip-off to Vellore SP, A. Mayilvaganan, special teams were formed to conduct surprise checks at public places like bus stands, railway stations and markets.
Accordingly, a special police team recently nabbed the gang near Katpadi railway station. They confiscated a large number of tablets. The gang told police about a key supplier who sells the tablets mainly online. With the support of the cyber crime team, the Pallikonda police located the key suspect in Rajasthan. In coordination with local police, a police team nabbed Choudary from his hideout in Rajasthan and seized 11,000 tablets from him. A case was registered and he was lodged in Vellore Central Jail. Another probe is underway.
Police said since January, at least 102 people have been arrested in connection with the sale or purchase of narcotic tablets in the district. In addition to seizing 11,000 tablets, police have also seized around 18,000 tablets in the district since January. The police have also introduced a helpline number (9498100355) to provide information about dealers and purchases of narcotic tablets in the district.
