Man arrested for killing daughter over inter-caste marriage in Kalyan

Three days after a woman was allegedly killed by her father in Kalyan in a suspected ‘honour killing’ case, the accused was arrested by the Bazarpet police on Monday.

According to Inspector Babasaheb Dukle, Vinod Vasaikar murdered his daughter Gayatri when he was angry about her inter-caste marriage. Mr. Vasaikar fled the scene after the murder.

The Bazarpet police registered a case and launched a search. Based on technical analysis and mobile location, he was tracked down and arrested on Monday.

During interrogation, Mr. Vasaikar confessed to the crime. He told the police that he ended his daughter’s life because she had married a man from a different caste, which he said had brought “bad name” to the family.

Gayatri got married to her boyfriend a few days ago, defying her family’s opposition. Her father arranged two betrothal ceremonies, both of which she refused. Mr. Vasaikar continued to harbor a deep grudge against his daughter, the police said.

After marriage, Gayatri came to her mother’s house in Rachna Royal building for personal work. On the day of the incident, a marriage dispute broke out between father and daughter. The argument escalated and Mr. Vasaikar took a sharp weapon from the house and stabbed Gayatri. She died on the spot.

The Bazarpet police are investigating the case.
