The Mysuru district police arrested a 25-year-old resident of Davangere in connection with derogatory posts on social media against Chief Minister Siddarmaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Ministers Priyank Kharge and Laxmi Hebbalkar.
The Mysuru District Cyber Crime Police Station registered a case based on a complaint filed on October 25 by Vijaykumar N., a resident of Bandipalya in Mysuru, who is also a KPCC convener, who alleged that an unknown person edited and distorted the pictures of Mr. Siddaramaiah and other Congress leaders to insult them.
Alleging that the social media posts contained abusive language against the leaders, the complainant alleged that the act was “unconstitutional” and aimed at disrupting the peace of the society.
The district police, who were investigating the matter, arrested Rajesh DM, aged 25, who lives in Davangere. The accused, who was taken into custody in Davangere, was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody, a Mysuru district police statement said.
Mysuru District Superintendent of Police N. Vishnuvardhan appreciated the efforts of Deputy Superintendent of Police R. Sreekantha, Police Inspector Sunil SP, Police Sub-Inspector Suresh Bopanna and Police Constable Rangaswamy HV who were involved in cracking the case.
