The Vadakkekara police arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly stabbing a candidate in the Chendamangalam grama panchayat local polls on Friday (November 28).
Manoj Valsan of Muravanthuruth, Vadakkekara, was arrested on charges of stabbing Fazal Rahman, 51, who is contesting as an independent in Ward 10 panchayat. Police believe that personal enmity was the reason behind the incident.
Mr. Rahman, a former corps member, was expelled from the CPI(M) after he decided to challenge the party’s decision. The alleged incident took place at the panchayat office in Chendamangalam following an argument between Mr. Rahman and Mr. Manoj. Mr. Rahman sustained an injury to his left shoulder in the attack.
Mr. Manoj was arrested from the private hospital where he sought treatment after the incident.
