Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K. Surendran said on Friday that the arrest of Rahul Mamkootathil, an MLA facing sexual abuse allegations, is being delayed to allow him time to destroy crucial evidence. Mr. Surendran alleged that the survivors were pressured to prevent complaints against him.
“This is not an isolated incident. We are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. Kerala has never witnessed anything like this. The delay in arresting Mr. Mamkootathil only strengthens the suspicion that loopholes are being created for him to escape. The group protecting him is a newly formed underworld faction of the Congress party,” he said.
“organized crime”
He further claimed that influential people were apparently involved in helping Mr. Mamkootathil to hide, adding that he had been protected in several earlier cases as well. “This is an organized crime and the police have evidence. Whoever is behind this crime must be brought to book. The claim that the MLA cannot be traced is unbelievable. Someone must have helped him disappear. This case cannot be treated as a routine investigation,” Mr Surendran said.
