The government of West Bengal on Thursday (April 17, 2025) welcomed the command of the Supreme Court to allow “unsuccessful” teachers to continue their service by the end of the year. The court said they could keep their jobs until a new recruitment process was carried out by the end of 2025.
“This is a huge relief. We have been in confusion about how the teachers will be paid their salaries after the last SC command. We were looking for a backup solution. Now our attraction has been heard … Teachers will be paid in time,” said Mamata Balerjee, Chief Minister.
More than 26,000 teaching and inconvenient school staff supported by the government lost their work after the Supreme Court 3. April confirmed the abolition of the former “tight” selection process.

While many people claimed that the government would drag the recruitment process until the elections to the Assembly of 2026, the main minister said the crisis would be resolved by the end of the year.
The Supreme Court also asked the state government and secondary school authorities to make an affidavit with the schedule of the entire recruitment process by May 31, which is to be completed by December 31.
Mrs. Banejee also called on the teacher to return to work as usual and lead their classes as before. “Do not fall into the conspiracy trap and keep faith in the law and government. We will legally find a way to correct things,” she said.

“Only temporary relief”
Teachers performing a SIT-in demonstration on Y-Channel in Esplanade, Kolkata, stated that the Supreme Court’s order was a momentary relief and not a permanent solution to their situation.
“It’s as if they have given us a specific time frame when we can stay alive. How do we go classes and love our students when we know that our days are numbered?” Mehboob Mondal, one of the spokespersons of the well -deserved teachers of teachers.
The Supreme Court did not renewed jobs of “tireless” non -tendagogical staff who were part of 26,000 people who lost their jobs, a decision that made an emergency between the damaged land. One such protesters said, “He creates a boundary between teaching and non -workholding holders. Why this discrimination?”
Many of the “unsuccessful” teachers said they did not want to participate in another round of exams when they were hired without any unfair means.
MP BJP Sukanta Majumdar said he welcomed the Supreme Court’s step, but refused to comment.
The State Minister of Education, Bratya Basu, previously assured the protesters of the teacher that by April 21 he would publish a list of “stained” and “unsuccessful” candidates until April 21. According to reports, the West Bengal School Services Commission has submitted these lists to the government; When they were published, it remains to be seen.
