The head of Mahal Roja Mutt in Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district Mallikarjun Mutya, who is an accused in the POCSO Act case, was questioned by the police.
He appeared before the Shahapur police on Wednesday evening for questioning in connection with the case.
Shahapur Rural Police Station Circle Inspector Sharanagouda Nyamannavar asked the accused several questions related to the crime.
The investigating officer asked the accused to appear before him on Thursday for investigation as well. As directed, the accused appeared again on Thursday for further investigation. As part of the investigation, the police seized the mobile phone used by the accused.
“The investigation is on. The police have taken the accused to the local government hospital and conducted a medical examination,” Superintendent of Police Prutwik Shankar told The Hindu.
Meanwhile, sources said mutt devotees and followers of the accused also gathered outside the hospital and police station as the accused was brought there for medical examination and investigation.
A petition challenging the FIR registered against the accused in the Karnataka High Court at Kalaburagi was withdrawn.
Another plea filed by the accused seeking anticipatory bail in the Yadgir District and Sessions Court will come up for hearing on Friday.
Mutya was booked under the POCSO Act after a video showing him misbehaving with a minor girl went viral on social media platforms.
