Malkajgiri police seized 730 kg of suspected adulterated ginger-garlic paste and 500 kg of paneer in food safety raids

Malkajgiri police on Tuesday seized 730 kg of suspected adulterated ginger-garlic paste, 500 kg of bulk paneer and a large quantity of skimmed milk powder and other ingredients from food manufacturing units in Hayathnagar, Alwal and Dundigal.

In separate operations, the Malkajgiri police on Tuesday seized 730 kg of suspected adulterated ginger-garlic paste, 500 kg of bulk paneer and a large quantity of skimmed milk powder and other ingredients from food manufacturing units in Hayathnagar, Alwal and Dundigal.

In the first operation, M-FAST (Malkajgiri Food Adulteration Surveillance Team) team along with SOT LB Nagar team and Hayathnagar police raided Sri Manikanta (SMK) Golden Food Products and Ginger-Garlic Paste Manufacturing Unit at Shiva Shakti Nagar in Hayathnagar. Police arrested Akula Shivaiah (38), who was making ginger-garlic paste using substandard raw material, unidentified solution and food colouring.

The teams seized 13 barrels containing 650 kg of ginger-garlic paste, 10 boxes containing 50 kg and 150 boxes containing another 30 kg, making the total amount of paste seized approximately 730 kg. They also seized a 3.5-liter bottle of an unidentified solution and a box of food coloring.

According to M-FAST, the paste was prepared in unsanitary conditions without complying with the required food safety and quality standards. The suspected adulterated raw materials and finished products were seized and a case was registered at the Hayathnagar police station under sections 223, 274 and 275 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

In another operation on the same day, SOT Malkajgiri II team from camp zone in coordination with MFAST raided Natraj Milk and Milk Food Products at Turkapally, Alwal under Alwal Police Station limits. Police said the unit was preparing paneer by mixing skimmed milk powder. Around 500 kg of loose milk powder and two bags containing approximately 50 kg of skimmed milk powder were secured.

The respondent, Japala Natraj (56), along with the seized material, was handed over to Alwal police station officials for further legal action. The method of preparation and materials found on the premises raised prima facie concerns regarding compliance with prescribed standards of food safety, quality, composition and production.

The teams also raided M/s Yashoda Sweet and Namkeen at Bowrampet village in Dundigal, where police said the unit was using a substantial amount of skimmed milk powder, oil and dalda or vegetable fat in making halwa and other sweets.

The teams seized several brands of skimmed milk powder, including around 35 sachets of Shreedhi Premium Gold and Ramsons Spray Dried skimmed milk powder, each sachet containing 25 packets of 1 kg each. They also seized six 25kg bags of Dholpur Fresh, four 25kg bags of Gyan, one 25kg bag of Lacto Win and one 25kg bag of Savariya skimmed milk powder.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of 21 kg of prepared and packaged Yashoda Sweet Halwa, around 100 cans of Freedom Oil and 50 cans of Dalda. The respondent, Pushpendra Baghel, 32, was handed over to the Dundigal police station for further legal action along with the seized material.
