Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender on Wednesday said he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene on the Jawaharnagar landfill issue and said the Center is willing to provide assistance if the Telangana government prepares and submits a detailed project report (DPR).

Mr. Rajender warned of mass agitation if the authorities did not respond to public concerns. On day 2 of his four-day march to highlight the health and environmental hazards posed by the dumping site near the residential colonies, he assured the locals of full support to tackle the issue.

He visited Rampally Lake and its surroundings and accused successive governments of failing to protect residents from uncontrolled waste management practices, despite complaints of foul smell, contaminated water and health problems.

The MP accused the private company managing the landfill and the municipality officials concerned of submitting “misleading reports” about waste treatment and leachate management. He claimed that untreated polluted water was being discharged into nearby canals and lakes, affecting agriculture, livestock and local livelihoods.

Mr. Rajender said water from local sources has become unfit for domestic use. He also claimed that the region had seen an increase in serious health problems, including cancer and kidney disease. Warning that the situation could worsen without corrective measures, the BJP leader announced at a public meeting on October 30, where he demanded a permanent solution to the crisis.
