Foreign Minister Maldiv Abdulla Khaleel expressed “fixed support” India against the background of the terrorist attack of Pahalgam of 22 April, which left 26 dead and dozens of injured. The discussion in this respect was part of the meeting of the main group (HLCG) at a high level, which took place here on Monday 26 May 2025).
“Foreign Minister Dr. Khaleel strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025. He expressed Maldivian solidarity with the Indian government and her company in India, in the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” the Ministry of external affairs after the meeting said.
Mr. Khaleel issued recognition from the Maldives for the recent granting of emergency financial assistance to India. He organized a bilateral meeting with the Minister of the External Affairs S. Jaishankar. “Welcome to the support and solidarity of the Maldives in the fight against terrorism. India is still determined to progress and develop the Maldives,” Jaishankar said after the meeting.
“We have checked our ongoing political and development cooperation and explored the ways of early implementation of the document vision set by two Maldiv and India leaders for strengthening the relationships of the Maldiv-India,” said Mr. Khaleel after the meeting. The document of the vision began on October 7, 2024, during the Indian visit to Maldiv President Muhammad Muizza.
Hlcg is a mechanism at the level of common secretaries. But for a change, Mr. Khaleel led the Maldiv delegation on interviews. The Indian delegation was headed by Pueet Agrawal, another secretary of the Indian Ocean Region Division division.
