Malayalam poet AC Sreehari passed away

Poet, writer and academician AC Sreehari died on Friday evening after suffering a heart attack. He was 56 years old. He was the former Head of the Department of English at Payyanur College and retired from service on April 30.

A well-known voice in contemporary Malayalam literature, several of his poems are included in university curricula across Kerala. His well-known works include Yuva Kavithakkoottam (1999) and Kavithayude Noottandu (2001), which have received wide recognition among readers and scholars.

Born on 24 November 1969 at Alappadamba near Payyanur in Kannur district, he was the son of AC Damodaran Namboothiri and Savithri Antharjanam. He received his primary education from Kuruveli Vishnusharma ALP School and later studied at Government Higher Secondary School, Mathil, and Nehru Arts and Science College, Kanhangad. Mr. Sreehari graduated in English from Payyanur College and did his post-graduation from St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri.

He completed his M.Phil. from Mahatma Gandhi University and received his Ph.D. from Kannur University in 2015 with a thesis titled ‘Construction of Masculinity in Popular Malayalam Cinema.’

He is survived by his wife Sangeetha K. and son AC Sreeharshan.

Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death.
