May. Gene. (RTD.) Sheena PD, a native of Vadama on Mala, the Thrissur district, won the prestigious Florence Nightingale 2025.
Indian President Drougadi Murmu awarded her a prize during the ceremony that took place on Friday in Rashtrapati Bhavan in Nový Delhi.
After a famous career lasting almost 40 years, she has recently left as the next CEO of the Military Nursing Service.
Maj.gen. (RTD.) Sheena launched her famous career in 1985 when she joined the military nursing service. In 1994 she specialized in cancer nursing from the renowned hospital Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. In 2012, she received a postgraduate diploma in the hospital and administration of health care from the Institute of Symbiosis Institute in Pune.
Its exceptional service and leadership led to various administrative appointments in the armed forces. It was chosen for administrative duties and served as the headmistress of the nursing school at the Secunderabad Military Hospital under the southern command and later as the director of the College of Nursing at the command hospital in Kalcato under the Eastern Command.
In the integrated headquarters of the Army in Dill (DGMS), it held key roles of employees, including Colonel Training (MNS) and Brigadier Admin (MNS). Her significant career extends across several military hospitals throughout India, where she contributed significantly. During her work as a temporary worker, she was sent as the main matron in the Northern Command Hospital in Udhampur, Kashmir, and further demonstrated her ability to serve in a demanding environment.
The Florence Nightingale Award National Award, established by the Ministry of Health and Family Care, honors determination, compassion and resistance that defines the nursing profession. Each award includes a certificate of merit, a cash price of 1,00,000 GBP and a medal. This year, 15 nurses from various regions and medical settings were awarded for their exemplary service.
