Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday (July 1, 2026) faced a protest by a mob reportedly including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at the local party office in her own constituency in Krishnanagar, Nadia. She claimed that the crowd threw stones and eggs and she was injured in the attack.

Ms. Moitra herself recorded two videos of the incident from the third floor window of an office building and posted them on X. In them, a large group of people carrying BJP flags, black flags and throwing eggs one after the other were seen targeting her while chanting “Jai Shree Ram”.

Some eggs hit the window, walls of the building and also landed on sarees of Lok Sabha MPs. Meanwhile, a team of police and a CRPF unit was also seen outside the building.

“This is what is happening with the police watching. They are not ordinary people. This is a BJP mob standing there for over an hour throwing eggs and vegetables. I have called everyone. The police and CRPF are just watching. This is my constituency and I am an MP here. The West Bengal government is denying it. No police or any court will take cognizance of it,” she said in the video.

Later, she also issued a video statement and live-streamed the incident on Facebook to West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP), Siddha Nath Gupta.

“I’m in the party office in a private area. It’s in a dhaba on the National Highway. Your police have been watching the entertainment for the last two hours. They’re not dispersing the crowd. They’re constantly egg-bombing. Look at the sheer anarchy in Bengal. They want me to run away, and they’ll continue to throw eggs and stones when I only enter the car. But I will.”

In the early hours of Wednesday (July 1, 2026), an unidentified person pelted stones at the residence of Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Mr Banerjee shared the CCTV footage of the incident on Wednesday (July 1, 2026) morning. A man on a bicycle in a green T-shirt with a helmet stopped in front of his house and threw a large rock. He also eventually managed to break a window.

“This is not just a breakdown of law and order. This is a dangerous institutionalization of violence. Where were the police? On whose instructions did this miscreant carry out such a brazen attack and get away with complete impunity? This is the horrifying reality of Bengal today,” the Diamond Harbor MP wrote on X.

Meanwhile, another Trinamool Congress MP, Dola Sen, also faced intense protest from BJP workers during her visit to Durgapur to attend a blood donation camp organized by the TMC’s labor wing to mark the birth and death anniversaries of former chief minister Bidhan Chandra Roy.

As her car entered the city, a group of BJP workers displayed her black flags while chanting “chor, chor” (thief, thief).

Reacting to the incident, BJP state president Shamik Bhattacharya said that Trinamool workers themselves were throwing eggs at Trinamool leaders and that the development was a result of resentment and was not part of BJP’s agenda.
