CM Fadnavis announces a panel of implementation of the language formula after scrapping the government resolution (GRS), which on Sunday, June 29, 2025 brought in Hindi as the third language.
On Sunday, Maharashtra eliminated the introduction of three language policies for class 1 to 5 in the schools of the state government, after two months of permanent opposition of academics, activists and political parties, including the nationalist congress party, which is part of the ruling coalition in the state.
In order to decide on the future of this policy, the government has established an expert committee, which is headed by economist and teacher Narendra Jadhav.
“The Committee will deal with the policy of three languages from which class should be performed. It will study the recommendation of the Mashelkar Committee report. Also those who have a different opinion will be heard. The government will receive Narendra Jadhav,” said Chief Devendra Fadnavis journalists in Mumbai, Mumbai.

Two government orders were canceled by a primary education policy issued on April 16 and June 17 this year. “The government has currently suspended the formula of three languages. The committee was looking for three months,” Hindu’s higher government officials said.
This policy will affect almost 80 lakh primary students in Marathi and the English Secondary Schools of the State Council. The formula of three languages is currently only implemented in high school.
Concerns about the role of the committee
Opposition parties, which burned copies of government orders throughout the state on Sunday afternoon, carefully welcomed the government’s decision, but were skeptical about the role of the committee. The leader of Shiv Sena (UBT) Uddhav Thackery and his cousin Raj Thackey of the Mahashrahra Navnirman hay declared it to win the unity of Marathi people and announced that a massive protest of July 5th will now change to victory.
However, Mr. Uddhav Thackeray also said that BJP is trying to draw a wedge between Marathis and Non-Marathis in the state, while Mr. Raj Thackey expressed reservations about the Committee led by Narendra Jadhav. “We assume that the policy of three languages for primary education has been discarded. If the government tries to create a mess for the Committee’s report, we will not allow this committee to work in Mahari,” he said in Facebook.
“Pushing the RSS agenda”
Experts who led the campaign against government orders also responded with skepticism about the intentions of the government. “Even though we are very happy and recognition is the unity of the Marathi people who were behind us, it is likely that the government is still trying to enforce this decision. What was the need for the committee? They should just announce the abolition of the decision,” said Laxmikant Deshmukh. “It seems to me that the government is trying to push through the RSS” Hindi, Hindu, Hindustan “agenda. It’s like a hanging sword. We must be careful,” Hindu said.
President Marathi Abhyas Kendra Deepak Pawar, a prominent voice against this policy, also raised concerns about the expertise of Dr. Jadhava. “Let the government first give the GR (government resolution) to record the scrap of the first two gr. We will see how clear and unambiguous the wording of the new order is. Only then can we rejoice. Until then, our agitation will continue.
