The defendant of rape died suicide in Mahashtra prison in Taloja on Sunday 13th April.
Taloja prison official said that Vishal Gawli, who was charged with kidnapping, rape and murder a smaller girl in Kalyan in Mahari, used a towel to hang up in the central prison of Taloja.
Vishal Gawli (35) was found hanging on the prison toilet around 3.30 in the morning, the PTI officials said.
“His body was sent to the JJ hospital for postmort. Vishal Gawli has been imprisoned in Taloja’s prison for three and a half months,” Taloja’s prison official said.
Kharghar police station official said Gawli went to the toilet and allegedly used a towel to hang up. The prison authorities later found the body.
The local police were immediately informed and Panchnama (point inspection) was carried out.
The body was sent to the JJ government hospital in neighboring Mumbai for a post-mortal test to determine the exact cause of death, the official said.
A case of rape and murder
Gawli was accused of rape and murdered a 12 -year -old girl in the Kalyan area in Thane, Mahara in December 2024. He and his wife Sakshi were arrested for accusation of kidnapping for ransom, murder, murder, causing the disappearance of evidence and other crimes.
“Vishal Gawli raped and murdered the girl while Sakshi helped him throw his body in Bapgon,” the police statement said earlier.
The incident caused extensive outrage and requirements for fast and strict punishment for the perpetrators.
The child disappeared from the locality Kolsewadi 24.
The couple was arrested according to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act and to protect children from sexual offenses (Pocso).
In February this year, the Kalyan police filed a 948 -page indictment against the couple.
