The Mahashtra government announced on Friday that Islampur in the Sangli district would be renamed as Ishwarpur. The statement was made in the State Legislative Corps on the last day of the monsoon meeting, PTI informed.
The decision to rename Islampur was made during the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, the Minister of Food, Civic Deliveries and Consumer Protection, Chhagan Bhujbal, the legislative assembly reported. The state government will send a proposal for the center for approval.
The decision of the State Cabinet is governed by the proposal from Shiv Pratisthan, the organization of Hindutva, which urges the collector Sangli to change the name of Islampura to Ishwarpur. Shiv Pratisthan is led by Sambhaji Bhide, whose supporters have said they will not rest until their demand is met. The leader of Shiv Sena of Islampur said that since 1986 the name has been underway.
The State Government announcement comes the day after the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that if someone from a religion other than Hinduism, Buddhism or Sikhism fraudulently acquires the planned caste certificate, it will be canceled, will be canceled, canceled
“Measures will be taken against such a person if they ensure reservation benefits such as government jobs. If such a person has won the elections using a fraudulent SC certificate, their choice will be declared invalid,” PTI Fadnavis quoted.
Fadnavis said that on November 26, 2024, he issued a judgment that explains that only Hinddhists and Sikhs, not individuals of other religions, can claim to be reserved for planned castes.
“If one of the religions other than Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism used the SC certificate or reservation, their validity and caste certificate will be canceled with proper procedure.
