The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a separate order for Maharashtra to restrict the sale and repackaging of expired and spoiled food, FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe said.

At a press conference on Friday (October 30, 2026), Mr Mundhe said that instead of properly destroying expired and expired food, they are “disposed of only on paper”. These goods are brought back after being repackaged by some agents and then sold to citizens. In some cases, production data is even manipulated.

According to the new order, the company concerned will have to submit proof of proper disposal of expired, spoiled or returned food. Businesses are also required to obtain food destruction certificates from disposal companies registered with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.

The department has been conducting operations across the state in recent days. Two cases were registered and adulterated food worth ₹5 lakh was seized.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Bhiwandi, the FDA cracked down on illegal activities during which stocks worth ₹80,000 and ₹26,000 were seized from Gulzar Nagar. Raids also took place in Vadpe, Padgha and Ambarnath region. The licenses of those involved in illegal activities have been suspended.

So far, a total of ten such operations have been carried out, where a total of 32 people, including business owners, have been charged.

22 compliance regulations have been issued for various sectors to clarify the rules to be followed for various businesses such as hotels, milk and milk products, edible oils and school feeding.
