
Police on Saturday arrested one person in connection with the alleged suicide of a 28-year-old female doctor in Maharashtra’s Satara district, an official told PTI.

1. “A team of Faltan police arrested Prashant Bankar, one of the two men named by the doctor in the suicide note written on her palm, from Pune,” an official told PTI. In a suicide note written on her palm, she alleged that Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane raped her on numerous occasions while software engineer Bankar mentally harassed her.
2. The Hindustan Times reported that the report stated that she was raped four times by Gopal Badane, a sub-inspector posted at Phaltan City police station.
3. When her body was discovered, a note written in Marathi was found on her palm. 4. A case of rape and incitement to suicide was registered against the couple. “One of the accused, Bankar, has been arrested and taken to Phaltan. Investigation is on,” the official said, as reported by PTI.
5. Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde says, “This is a very unfortunate incident. I have spoken to the local police force. The accused is a police official. An FIR has been registered in the incident. I have requested the SP to take strict action against the accused in this case.”
6. The victim’s cousin claimed that the doctor faced political pressure related to her work. “There was a lot of police and political pressure on her to file wrong post-mortem reports. She tried to complain about it. My sister should get justice,” the cousin told ANI.
7. Another cousin demanded severe punishment for those involved. “The defendant should receive the most severe punishment,” he said.

8. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve attacked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio, over the suicide of a doctor and the name of a police officer who appeared in the case. “Women’s safety is needed more than ‘Ladki Bahin’ (financial scheme for women from low income families). If people who flourished under Fadnavis’ wings are harassing women in such a way, then Fadnavis has failed as Home Minister and should resign,” Danve wrote on X.

9. As reported by ANI, about the doctors who protested Dr Satara’s death, a first year student of KEM Hospital, Dr Samya said, “The POSH Act has already been implemented by law in 2013… We want this Act to be implemented strictly everywhere and due to shortcomings this implementation is not happening; therefore if this matter reaches this point then we are working. All our demands of OPDs and ERs are not fulfilled. escalate our protest.”

10. State Commission for Women chief Rupali Chakankar said, “We have taken cognizance of the matter and directed the Satara police to take strict action against the accused.” Maharashtra minister Pankaja Munde said there should be no “media trial” in the doctor’s incident.
