Representatives of the Chief Minister Ajit Pawwar criticized political parties for becoming Hindi against this step to become a compulsory third language for students in class 1 to 5 in schools in Marath and secondary schools throughout the state.
He said that those opposed to the decision play “unnecessary disputes for lack of real problems”.
“Marathi is our mother tongue and will always have the first priority in the state,” said Mr. Pawar on the edge of the National Memorial inauguration dedicated to the Chapekar brothers in Pimpri Chinchwad on Thursday (April 17, 2025).
On Wednesday (April 16), the Ministry of School Education issued a state school resolution mentioned the phase implementation of a new curriculum on the recommendation of national education (NEP) 2020.
The Mahashtra government has decided that Hindi will be the third language for students in classes 1 to 5 in the classes of Marathi and English throughout the State in a diversion from the study of two languages. Mr. Pawar, who intervened critics, said, “Some people create disputes over the Hindi language just because they have nothing to do. English is widely used throughout the country and like that in many countries.

Mr. Pawar claimed that all three languages - Marathi, Hindi and English – are important, but marathi will always keep superiority in the state. “Marathi must remain intact and continue to grow,” he said.
Pawar emphasized the role of the language promotion and said, “He was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who granted Marathi the status of classical language, a decision that had been waiting in Delhi for years. He added that plans to establish Marathi Bhasha Bhavan in Mumbai to further promote this language.
The formula of three languages for class 1 to 5 is part of the new Curricular Implementation within NEP 2020.
The Ministry of Education in the field of education announced a phase plan of the implementation of a new framework of the curriculum designed according to the recommendations of NEP 2020 for school education.
