
Shardiya Navratri is one of the most important Hindu festivals, celebrated in the Lunar Moon Ashwin (September – October). The festival lasts nine days, each dedicated to one form of the goddess Durgy.
Navami Tithi of Shukl Paksha, known as Maha Navami or Navami, refers to a great conclusion to the celebrations in front of Vijayadashami (Dussehra).

Maha Navami: The meaning of
Maha Navami is considered to be one of the most powerful days of navratri. On this day, the goddess Durg is worshiped in its highest form as Maa Siddhidatri, Bestower of Wisdom, Success and Spiritual Force (Siddhis).
According to Scripture, Maa siddhidatri sits on the lotus, carries Mace, Discus, Lotus and Conch and bless her devoted to both the material and the spiritual filling. It represents the culmination of Shakti’s worship and the combination of devotion to divine energy.
Overall, Navami represents the victory of good over evil, the culmination of devotion and the blessing of the goddess for strength, wisdom and prosperity.

Maha Navami: Puja Rituals and Vidhi
- Wake up early on Maha Navami, bathe and wear new clothes.

Maha Navami: Ayudha Puja
Navami is also of great importance for warriors. In many regions, weapons are worshiped on this day, a ritual known as Ayudha Puja, especially in South India. It is assumed that worship of tools and weapons on Navami ensures success and protection.
Maha Navami: Batthukamnu Celebration
Batthukamma is a pulsating floral festival celebrated mainly in Telangana, symbolizing the cultural spirit of the state. The observed during the second half of September to the beginning of October coincides with the Navratri period and lasts nine days.
The word “Batthukamma” means “the mother of the goddess comes to life” and the festival is dedicated to the goddess Gauri (form of parvati) seeking prosperity, health and happiness.
