At least 25 people were injured after the explosion tore the bar in Madrid on Saturday, the local authorities said.
According to DW, the explosion took place around 15:00 at the Misoros bar in the capital of the Spanish city of Puente de Vallecas. DW with quoting local media said that an explosion can cause gas leakage.
Carlos Marin, head of the Fire Brigade of the Madrid City Council, said that the explosion is connected to the gas, but the type and the exact cause were still unclear.
The emergency services confirmed that two victims were in a “serious” state and the other three were reported as in a “potentially serious” state.
Firefighters pulled four people out of the debris.
Meanwhile, the deputy mayor of Inmaculada Sanz said he was “too early” to confirm the reason why the explosion was, but said that no other victims were imprisoned.
She added that the inhabitants of nine housing units in the same building will need temporary accommodation in the next few days.
The authorities said the building remained unstable. While some upper apartments were left unaffected, the entrance area was seriously damaged, causing the “completely impossible” approach, Marin said according to DW.
