The University of Madras Syndicate on Monday withdrew the proposal to revise the payroll scales of non -conducting staff to bring them to similar positions at the same level.
The university was in the eye of the storm, because the non -leading staff resorted to protests on academic soil to express its displeasure at the beginning of this month. The Syndicate meeting was also postponed twice before it was finally held. Also on Monday, employees gathered in the hall of a building in which the office for the vice -chairman and the room of the Syndicate is located and sat all day until the meeting ended.
The proposal, which has been withdrawn since then, said that the difference in scale “is a challenge in terms of self -sufficiency and parity”, which is looking for approval of government approved salary and promotional policies for non -teaching employees.
“The syndicate withdrew this item from the agenda,” said S. Balakrishnan, president, the University of Madras, who did not teach. “The leading officials also assured us after the meeting that there would be no inspection of the scales for existing employees.”
Employees and teachers of the university belonging to various associations met under the joint Action Committee to oppose this step. The argument presented by the Union was that the item in the agenda did not include any details of what the nature of the revision would be, what the timeline and ways would be.
In addition, they claimed that the current fixation of the remuneration occurred at the end of the 80s after the recommendations of the committees of Dr. Venugopal and Dr. ARUMUGAM A was approved by the seventh reward commission.
