Some courts in Kerala do not suit the state’s “general sense of justice” in certain cases, CPI(M) general secretary MA Baby said.
Mr Baba’s remarks came in the context of the verdicts in the Kerala actor assault case and in the cases involving Rahul Easwar and Rahul Mamkootathila, MLA, when he spoke to reporters in Alappuzha on Friday (Dec 12, 2025).
“There is a general perception among the people of Kerala that the verdict in the actor assault case has undermined their sense of natural justice. That is why there has been a massive mobilization of opinion in favor of the survivors, including from the film industry and various organisations. Based on this, the LDF government has announced that it will appeal the verdict. It has inadvertently revealed its stand on the matter,” he said.
Mr Baby said the sentiment was not limited to this particular case. “While one Rahul (Rahul Easwar) is accused of revealing the identity of a survivor in a sexual abuse case, which is a serious offence, the other Rahul (Mr Mamkootathil), accused of an even more serious offense and described as a serial offender, has been granted anticipatory bail,” he said.
“UDF double standard”
Mr. Baby said the upcoming local poll verdict in Kerala would be in favor of the LDF “as people would exercise their credentials based on their life experiences”. The verdict, he said, will serve as the “opening statement” of people who support the continuation of the LDF government. People recognized what he described as the UDF’s “double standard on communal politics”.
He alleged that the UDF was “shamelessly associating with certain minority organizations which openly advocate fighting against the communal infamy of the RSS in the same manner”.
Mr. Baby said voters would make an informed assessment of the Sabarimala-related controversy. This, he said, would allow them to see that the special investigation team, operating under judicial supervision, was conducting investigations carefully and had even arrested individuals linked to the Left at some point when they came under control.
“It has sent a message that the LDF government is not averse to investigating, questioning or making arrests regardless of political considerations. While the Sabarimala gold theft is unfortunate, the LDF government has made it clear that it has nothing to hide from the public. The arrest of the former CPI(M) MLA is a testament to that,” he said.
