M. Ganesh of the CPI and S. Lalitha Kumari of the Congress were unanimously elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Kothagudem Municipal Corporation (KMC).

The CPI and the Congress entered into a “power-sharing agreement” for the KMC after the hung council.

Under the agreement, the CPI will hold the post of mayor for the first two-and-a-half years and the Congress will take over the post for the remainder of the five-year term, according to CPI sources.

The CPI and Congress won 22 divisions each in the hotly contested elections to the 60-member Kothagudem Municipal Corporation. BRS won eight divisions.

In Peddapalli district, the Congress wrested the Ramagundam Municipal Corporation where its candidate Mahankali Swamy was unanimously elected as the mayor of the civic body.
