LPG crisis panic: Amid nationwide panic over a potential shortage of LPG cylinders due to the US-Iran war in the Middle East, state-owned oil and gas company Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has urged customers not to panic. The conflict in the Middle East and Iran’s blanket blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has created a shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies, and domestic LPG users are panicking about the development, especially after the LPG price hike earlier this month.
In a post on X on Wednesday, BPCL said it had sufficient LPG stocks and assured customers that they would get their cylinders.
“There is no need to panic. Bharat Petroleum has sufficient LPG stocks and customers will get their cylinders as scheduled,” it said.
The government gas company has urged customers to book their LPG cylinder through available options to avoid the rush.
“We are actively ensuring smooth distribution across our network so that households continue to receive uninterrupted service. Customers are encouraged to use available booking options and avoid unnecessary rush,” it said.
BPCL also assured users that its Bharat Gas LPG needs are under control. “Your energy needs are safe and we’re here to keep your kitchens running without interruption.”
BPCL’s Bharat Gas statement comes a day after Indian Oil issued a similar announcement for its Indane gas cylinders, saying, “IndianOil continues to ensure constant availability of LPG to households across the country. We understand that some customers may book refills earlier than usual. However, advance or panic bookings may temporarily increase demand and affect delivery times.”
