LPG cylinder rate today, March 23: Domestic and commercial LPG cylinder prices remained unchanged in India on Monday, March 23, even as the conflict raged in the Middle East.
The availability of cooking gas in India has taken an unofficial hit amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the effective suspension of trade through the key Strait of Hormuz. India relies on imports for most of its domestic and commercial LPG, which is around 60. Most of these imports, approximately 90%, enter India through the Strait of Hormuz.
Although shortages were reported in some parts of the country, the government continued to reassure the public that domestic crude and refined fuel stocks were sufficient to meet current demand.
Increase in LPG cylinder prices in India
Due to the blanket blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and only a few Indian-flagged ships plying the waterway, LPG cylinder prices, both domestic and commercial, are being monitored.
To manage the impending shortage, cooking gas was brought under the Essential Commodities Act of 1955. The government introduced a tiered distribution strategy, prioritizing supplies to households and limiting supplies to commercial establishments to a fifth of their requirements.
At the beginning of March, the government increased the prices of domestic LPG cylinders and commercial LPG cylinders. Domestic LPG rate increased ₹50 for a cylinder weighing 14.2 kg. Commercial LPG rate has been increased ₹144 for a 19 kg cylinder.
There has been no price revision since then. LPG prices therefore remained stable on Monday, March 23.

Faster processing of city gas projects
The government has stepped up efforts to streamline gas distribution and ease supply pressures, directed faster processing of city gas projects, and at the same time increased the allocation of commercial LPG to key sectors in a challenging geopolitical environment.
The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) has directed its offices to dispose of City Gas Distribution (CGD) applications within 10 days to expedite the introduction of natural gas (PNG) pipelines, an official statement said.
Commercial LPG consumers in major cities and urban areas have also been advised to switch to PNG as part of a wider strategy to reduce dependence on LPG.
