Loyola College hosts a workshop on digital accessibility for the visually impaired

The Department of Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs (HEPSN) of Andhra Loyola College (ALC), Vijayawada, in association with EnAble India, Bengaluru, organized a day-long workshop on Digital Accessibility for the Visually Impaired.

Up to 20 participants have benefited from the program, including government employees, corporate professionals, job seekers and students. The training was conducted by Senior Executive, Enable India Y. Rajesh along with trainers Keerthan Kumar, Bhuvaneswari and Nagababu.

Participants received hands-on training on accessibility features for Android and Windows, including screen magnification, font enlargement, high-contrast display, dark mode, screen readers, cursor enhancements, and other assistive technologies designed to improve digital access for education, work, and everyday life.

Mohamad Abbas, a job-seeking B.Tech graduate, said the workshop boosted his confidence in using accessibility tools that would help him perform better in competitive exams and in the workplace, while Rama Satyanarayana of Bhimavaram Collectorate noted that the hands-on session introduced him to several accessibility features that would improve his efficiency and reduce eye strain in official work.

GV Lakshmi Priya, chief accountant at the Department of Telecommunications, said the training enabled her to adapt digital devices for more convenient and productive office work. Similarly, Yerra Naidu of the Department of Agriculture in Srikakulam said the workshop showed how assistive technology can enable visually impaired people to work more independently and confidently.

Participants appreciated the practical nature of the program and expressed confidence that the newly acquired digital skills would improve their academic, professional and personal lives.
