The cricket will return to the Olympic Games for 128 years for the first time and presents six teams in male and female events, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed. A total of 90 players will participate at each event. Sport will be played in the world’s largest multi-sports spectacle, which will take place in Los Angeles in 2028.
Cricket is one of the five new sports that will be included in the Los Angeles Olympics, along with Squash, flagship, baseball/softball and lacrosse. The qualification criteria for cricket at the Olympics must still be completed. Unlike test formats and ODI, almost 100 nations are played, which makes the qualifying process an interesting challenge. As hosts, the US could get a direct entry into the tournament.

The program for the Los Angeles Olympic Games was approved by the Executive Council of IOC on Wednesday 9 April. 2028 games will present a total of 351 medals 22 more than the Paris Olympics. The main athlete remains 10,500, while another 698 athletes were assigned in five new sports, IOC announced.
The cricket recently recorded a revival of more sports events. For 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, a female cricket was first listed, with Australia claiming gold and India that took silver. In the Asian Games 2023, it took place in Hangzhou, took part in 14 male teams and 9 female teams, with India securing gold in both categories.
The process of cricket in Los Angeles began in August 2021, when the International Criket Council (ICC) formally announced its intention to integrate it for integration. This led to cooperation between the ICC and the La28 organizational committee, which culminated in October 2023, when the cricket was officially designed as one of five new sports.
ICC chairman Jay Shah is already working on a long -term strategy to ensure the presence of cricket in future Olympic Games, including Brisbane 2032. The former boss BCCI played a key role in the campaign to bring cricket to the Olympic scene in 2028.
