Temporary ditch dug to redirect rainwater mixed with waste water to the carp lake in Hyderabad.
Over the past two years, it leads to the inunding of colonies in Sainikpuri and the pollution of Kapra Lake in the Medchal district Malkajgiri in the last two years.
The Pandemonium prevails in the Enclave SS in Sainikpuri, which is adjacent to the rainwater drain between Nagereddy Kunta in Yaplal and Oora Cheruvu of carp, every time it rains. This area is flooded in a mixture of rainwater and waste water and residents suffer for days, all for the construction of rainwater at a lower level than in reception, such as part of the NALA strategic development program.
Priya Iyengar, a resident published on the X -Social Media platform, shares the video clips of the colony that is flooded when it rained continuously for two days. She argued that Commissioner Zonal and divisional engineer Malkajgiri would never respond to calls.
“During the summer, no noise at all. Just one down Pour The Tinkering Job begins (sic),” she said.
Tinking work meant attempts to drain the flood water from the SS enclave, for which temporary trenches are dug from the open outflow up to the lake and bypass part of the suction well. However, this threatens the quality of the lake water, says Manognya Reddy from the Group for the revival of Lake Kapra, which organizes units to clean the lake.
Due to the failure of the outflow, the storm water often backs up and floods the houses upstream from the outflow. Due to the accumulation of rainwater, the sewer extension will begin to overflow and pollute water that is exhausted into the carp lake temporary trenches. The trenches are often considered to be attempts by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to fill the lake to prepare for the immersion of Ganesh Idol.
However, GHMC engineers have a different story. Executive engineer Malekajgiri Circle R. Laxman said that it is not possible to contain waste water from the entrance to the lake during heavy rains because it is mixed in rainwater.
“We have a provision for the departure of waste water during dry seasons because the streams are minimal. During heavy rains, the volume is very high and it is not possible to ensure the departure of the waste water. It is applicable to all lakes where the wastewater departure is suspended.
He said the trenches that there were temporary measures before the levels were repaired. He admitted that there was a disproportionate delay in taking over the remedial measures, stating that rainwater drainage, built in expenditures of more than 31 GBP Crore as part of the SNDP project, ended at a lower level than income, resulting in floods.
