A public prosecutor of the Karnataka High Court in Kalaburagi was nabbed by the Lokayukta police on Tuesday on charges of accepting bribe.
The accused, identified as Rajamahendra, was caught red-handed accepting ₹25,000 as part of a bribe request of ₹50,000.
According to Lokayukta officials, the bribe was demanded for doing a favor to the accused in a case registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The complainant, identified as Naveen, reportedly approached the Lokayukta after the public prosecutor demanded money to extend his cooperation in the case.
A trap was laid near the Supreme Court building where Rajamahendra was caught taking the deposit. He was subsequently taken into custody and interrogated.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Siddaraju Lokayukta and Deputy Superintendent of Police Sheelavanth.
