Lokayukta court sentences former subtahsildar to 4 years for accepting bribe

The 1st Additional District and Sessions and Special Court at Shivamogga on Tuesday sentenced a former sub-tahsildar to four years in jail and fined him ₹40,000 for accepting a bribe from a farmer seeking disability pension for his father.

Accused Pushpalatha, then sub-tahsildar of Nadakacheri in Kallihal, Holehonnur hobli, Bhadravati taluk, was convicted in a Lokayukta entrapment case registered in 2017.

According to the Karnataka Lokayukta, the complainant Gireesh, 33, a farmer of DB Halli in Bhadravati taluk, approached Pushpalatha after getting a medical certificate that his father Parameshwarappa was speech and hearing impaired. He asked for help in getting a disability pension for his father.

The official allegedly demanded ₹10,000 as bribe for processing the pension. On 21 September 2017, Lokayukta officials jailed Pushpalath while she was allegedly accepting ₹5,000 from Gireesh at the Bhadravati taluk office.

Police Inspector JS Thippeswamy, who investigated the case, subsequently filed a charge sheet against the accused in court.

After hearing the case, on 1 September 2026, the court found Pushpalath guilty and sentenced her to four years in prison and a fine of ₹40,000. Special Public Prosecutor Sundar Raj represented the government in the case.
