Moments before Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey 2025-26, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday (Jan 29, 2026) announced that this year, members will also receive an electronic copy of the document on WhatsApp, apart from being uploaded to the members’ portal.

Mr. Birla also sought suggestions from the members to introduce new innovations for more efficient proceedings.
“We have made some changes and you will see some of them in the coming days,” Mr. Birla said, adding, “I would like to request you to give us suggestions for new innovations. We will try all the tools that can increase the productivity of the esteemed members.”

Earlier, during question hour, Mr. Birla had urged members not to talk to each other during the proceedings of the House and said that if they wanted longer discussions among themselves, they should come out of the chamber.
“Such behavior is against the dignity of the House and those who want to indulge in lengthy discussions can walk out of the Lok Sabha,” he said, adding that he would henceforth appoint members who disrupt proceedings.
