The Lok Sabha on Wednesday (April 2, 2026) passed a bill amending certain provisions in various laws to decriminalize and rationalize minor offenses to further promote ease of doing business and life.
The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026 was passed by voice vote.
The bill proposes to amend 784 provisions of 79 central laws administered by 23 ministries. It seeks to decriminalize 717 provisions and amend 67 provisions to make life easier.
It also seeks to streamline more than 1,000 offences, remove outdated and redundant provisions, thereby improving the overall regulatory environment.
Reacting to the debate on the bill, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said it would help people and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Congress MP K. Kavya’s amendments were rejected by voice vote.
