Liverpool FC have announced plans for a permanent memorial statue at Anfield to honor the late striker Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically died in a car crash in Spain last year.
A memorial called the “Forever 20” statue will be installed on 97 Avenue outside Anfield, a site that has become a place of remembrance for thousands of supporters following the brothers’ deaths in July 2025.
The statue’s design features a heart inspired by Jota’s goal celebration and includes text from Liverpool fans chanting: “He will lead us to victory oh his name is Diogo.”
In a statement published on the club’s official website, Liverpool said the tribute would “celebrate their lives, their bond and the love and respect felt by family, teammates and supporters around the world.
The club added that the memorial “will serve as a lasting symbol of love, unity and remembrance and a place where everyone can think, remember and pay their respects”.
The statue, placed on a stone plinth, was designed to reveal Jota’s retired No. 20 from one angle and Silva’s No. 30 from another. Silva wore this number during his time at Portuguese second division side FC Penafiel.
The brothers lost their lives on July 3, 2025, after the Lamborghini they were driving went off the A-52 motorway near Zamora, Spain and burst into flames.
Jota was 28 at the time of his death and had played a major role in Liverpool’s campaign to win the Premier League in the 2024-25 season. The Portugal international joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and scored 65 goals in 182 appearances in all competitions during his five seasons at Anfield.
Silva was 25 years old when he died in the accident.
The deaths of the two brothers caused an outpouring of grief in the footballing world, with tributes pouring in from clubs, players and supporters from across Europe and beyond. Liverpool have not yet announced a date for the official unveiling of the memorial statue.
