Literature develops imagination, independent thinking: actor Brahmanandam

Telugu actor Brahmanandam on Friday said that literature is the language of human emotions, a way to express feelings beautifully.

Addressing the valedictory session of Amaravati Literature Festival (ALF) 2026 held at SRM University-AP, Amaravati, the Padma Shri awardee said that stories, poetry and classical texts preserve cultural memory and wisdom across generations, even in the midst of advancing technology.

Drawing on Telugu literary giants like Vemana, Sri Sri and Dhurjati, Mr Brahmanandam said literature should be made accessible to all, stressing its role in developing imagination, emotional awareness and independent thinking. He emphasized the key place of spirituality in literature, pointing to works such as the Bhagavatam and the Bhagavad Gita as guides to introspection and human values.

SRM AP Vice Chancellor Ch. Appreciating the festival’s role in connecting young minds with global literary traditions, Satish Kumar noted that Mr. Brahmanandam’s contribution made the event particularly memorable. Festival organizers, including prof. Vishnupada, Dr. Sayantana Thakura and Dr. Argha Basu, highlighted the role of ALF 2026 in fostering meaningful dialogue between writers, scientists and creative artists.

The three-day event organized under the theme ‘Stories for a Changing World’ featured eminent authors and creators like Roopa Pai, Samhita Arni, Dinesh C Sharma, Suruchi Garg and Amit Bharti. Prahelika, a quiz competition involved university students in literary knowledge.
