The second day of the International Literary Festival on Monday turned into a celebration of children’s creativity when The Changampuzha Mandiram festival took place in The Changampuzha Mandiram. The whole day was dedicated exclusively to young readers and writers, the initiative considered a milestone.
“It is a great start to attract children to the world of literature,” said Pallyara Sreedharan, director of the State Institute of Children’s Literature, which chaired the opening session. “Previously, children had few platforms that showed their writing. Today, with the support of social media, they have the premises to express themselves. But above all, one message remains – read, read, read.”
An engaging session of “various stars” (Veritta nakshatrangal), focused on inclusion. The leadership of the writer Sherly Somasundaran and visually questioned the poet Shanavas Shanavas and urged the children to see diversity as strength. “If everyone thinks that individuality is lost. Therefore, each of us must remain alone,” Mrs. Shanavas told the young audience. Mrs. Somasundaran mixed the narrative, songs and games to make the session interactive.
Science and words
In the meeting of “scientific, literature and imagination”, the writer of CR Das said to children: “The more you learn science, the more your imagination expands. Literature plays a key role in taking care of this imagination.” Teacher and writer Sangeeth Chenampully said: “Rational thinking helps us evaluate the world around us while imagination is pushing us for him. Science must always be used.”
The session directed by Mr. Sreedharan and writer Priya as was an engaging interaction with writers and artists such as Priyaraj Govindaraj, Sangeeth Chenampully, 2024 Sahitya ACADEMI AWARD AWARD AWARD AWARD AWARD.
Mrs. Priya at the workshop stressed that adults also have to learn from children. “Children must not be silenced or defined by us; they have their own identity and voice. As the poet Ashitha once wrote, the children should not sit quietly in the corner,” she said. It emphasized the importance of organizing the festival exclusively for children at a time when their congenital sense of miracle and imagination often faces erosion.
