The Lok Bhavan Governor’s residence and the Telangana State Secretariat observed Earth Hour on Saturday by switching off the lights at the designated hour.
The lights went out in both buildings for an hour between 20:30 and 21:30 in support of the global environmental campaign with the motto “Give Earth an Hour”.
A communiqué from the Lok Bhavan informed that all lights in the staff colony, officers’ quarters and administration building were switched off for an hour.
Video clips were circulating on social media that captured the exact moment the lights went out and the secretariat was plunged into darkness.
Earth Hour is a global movement initiated by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) two decades ago where, in a symbolic gesture, people turn off non-essential lights for an hour on the last Saturday in March between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. to raise awareness of climate change and conservation.
On the occasion of 8 PM Earth Hour, WWF-India Hyderabad in collaboration with L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) organized a cultural program at Ameerpet Metro Station.
