The State Library Council is ready to address 3 Lakh households through the delivery of books of 3,000 libraries to further expand the network of readers and maintain libraries relevant.
The year -round project was introduced during the reading day on Thursday. The idea is that librarians from selected 3,000 libraries visit at least 100 families per month. The project is already taking place in almost 300 of 533 libraries as part of the Council of the District Library of Ernakulam.
“Libraries in the AB and C categories are part of the project that is already underway. Librarians of selected libraries will cover 15 to 20 households a day and distribute books on the selection of readers concerned. Librarians will receive a nominal contribution,” said Mr. Surendran, secretary of the Ernacula District Library.
Regardless of the progressive increase in the number of registered libraries for library councils and an increase in the activities they organize, readers seem to be more and more inclined to these libraries with better physical infrastructure and modernization, including digitization.
“Normal neighborhood libraries are increasingly lost. The goal is to win them on this day. About 210 libraries in our limits have joined book delivery,” Dr. Rajesh, secretary of Kunathunad Taluk Library Council.
The state government allowed local authorities to allocate funds and development funds of people representatives to modernize the library about five years ago, which opened more financial ways. Until then, the libraries rely on the Grants of the State Library Council. However, it seems that only libraries blessed by better placement and influential contacts can be used by these funds.
The State Library Council sorted 9,000 odd libraries from Plus to F on the basis of physical infrastructure, number of books, membership, activities, etc. on the basis of grants. Annual books grants can buy books.
Although the Minister of Industry P. Rajeeve granted Crore 1 Crore for various library -related projects, it is in the process of implementation. Some of the proposed projects include reserved corners for recognized writers from his constituency and beautified children’s corners in libraries.
