What kind of education will best prepare young people to understand themselves, decide on thoughtful life decisions and navigate the rapidly changing world?
On the Hindu ties called “A well -rounded view of the world: finding a place for liberal education”, Bhavani S., Dean of the Humanities School and Artistic Arts at Christ College, Professors of Ashoka University Jonathan Gill Harris and Srinath Raghavan and Azim Premji Foundation World editor in today’s world in today’s world. The conversation will be moderated by Maya ThiaGarajan, governess, teacher and founder of the tree.

Liberal education through its wide, interdisciplinary nature helps students not only acquire skills in critical thinking, but also the ability to better understand and make thoughtful and ethical decisions. As we experience the AI revolution, we increase geopolitical complexity and a terrifying increase in mental health problems, young people need education that prepares them for a very uncertain future. They need a wide view of the world and the ability to analyze complex situations from a number of perspectives. It must also fully understand what it means to be a person and how to live a good life. Liberal education can be the best way for them to acquire these skills and navigate the road forward.
In India, university education was historically focused on specific professions such as engineering or business. For Indian families, the idea of liberal education, which is by its very nature is an interdisciplinary nature and does not necessarily focus on a specific profession, relatively new. In this meeting, academics will share their ideas on the purpose of education in today’s world, various courses and curriculum, which characterize liberal education, and ways in the way liberal education prepares young people both for the workforce and for adult life. They will also examine the challenges of liberal education in the Indian context.
