Jammu and Kashmir police busted Lashkar-e-Taiba’s interstate terror cell and arrested five people, including Abdullah alias Abu Hurair, who was on the run for 16 years and managed to set up bases outside the union territory, officials said on Tuesday.
Apart from Abdullah, another Pakistani terrorist Usman alias Khubaib was arrested in a major operation involving the Jammu and Kashmir police as well as central agencies.
Investigators searched 19 locations, including Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Haryana, and found incriminating material. The probe revealed a deep-rooted LeT network involved in providing logistics and financial support to terrorists.
According to details, officials said that among the five caught, three were residents of Srinagar. Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat, Adil Rashid Bhat and Ghulam Mohammad Mir alias Mama were arrested for allegedly providing logistical support, including shelter and food, to terrorists, they said.
Officials said investigations indicated that the foreign terrorist managed to travel outside the country on the basis of forged documents and identity with the help of the Lashkar-e-Taiba network in other states.
Terrorists infiltrated India about 16 years ago, during which they remained active in various areas of the Kashmir Valley. Over the years, they have controlled and commanded about 40 foreign terrorists. Most of them were killed by security forces.
