Kohli was given a reprieve when Washington Sundar dropped him off Mohammed Siraj in the opener of RCB’s innings and the missed chance proved costly.Kohli went on to smash 81 off 44 balls to lead RCB to a five-wicket win over Gujarat Titans.Analyzing the pivotal moment of RCB’s successful chase in Star Sports, the legendary Sunil Gavaskar pointed to Kohli’s early fall as the turning point.“That dropped catch by Virat Kohli off the bowling of Siraj definitely cost Gujarat Titans a lot,” Gavaskar said.“We all know he is not only known as a king. He is also known as a master chaser,” Gavaskar noted.“You drop him on the first ball, then he will definitely make you pay. That’s exactly what he did,” he said.He further underlined Kohli’s reputation as one of the best catchers in the game. “Chasing huge totals with ease has been Virat’s signature batting style throughout his career,” Gavaskar said. The former India captain also hinted that GT may regret the missed opportunity given the conditions of the match. “At one point … he was clutching the ball a little bit. It wouldn’t have been as easy if the ball had gotten a little bit older,” he noted.

He made it look easy,” he said.Gavaskar also lauded Devdutt Padikkal for his improvement in IPL 2026, particularly his expanded range of scoring options that have bolstered RCB’s top order.“Devdutt Padikkal played an excellent innings. Virat Kohli rightly pointed out after the match that Padikkal bowls some very clean shots of cricket. Earlier he was seen as an offside player. His main areas of scoring were cover and mid-on. He used to struggle in the side. But now he has overcome that limitation.”Gavaskar added, “He also hits sixes and boundaries behind the square. That adds to RCB’s batting power. They have Devdutt at number three and skipper Rajat Patidar at number four. Both can hit sixes off the first ball. That’s a big difference for RCB right now.”Chasing 206, RCB suffered an early setback when GT pacer Mohammed Siraj dismissed opener Jacob Bethell to reduce them to 26/1 in three overs. However, the highest order reacted strongly. Kohli led the charge with a fluent 81 off 44 balls, while Padikkal supported him superbly with a brisk 55 off 27 deliveries. The duo ensured that the required rate remained in check, stitching a 115-run stand in just 59 balls. After their dismissal in quick succession, the match tightened up in the middle overs as Rashid Khan and Manav Suthar picked up key wickets to leave RCB at 175/5 after 16 overs.RCB then faltered briefly with the dismissal of Rajat Patidar (8) and Jitesh Sharma (10), leaving 31 needed for the last four overs. But Krunal Pandya (unbeaten 23 off 12) stepped up under pressure and turned the game around.Krunal took charge of the GT attack, smashing 15 runs in the 18th over to turn RCB’s momentum around in decisive fashion, while Tim David chipped in with an unbeaten 10 off nine balls. He completed the chase in the 19th over when he guided a short ball from Jason Holder to deep square arm as RCB reached 206/5 in 18.5 overs to seal a five-wicket win and two crucial points. With the win, RCB climbed to the second spot in the IPL 2026 table with 10 points from seven matches, with five wins and two losses.
