
The tension escalated in Chalakuda on Saturday (May 17, 2025) after activists from the Democratic Front (LDF) attacked the city office to protest the growing stray threat. The protest, running attacks of stray dogs that injured 12 people, changed chaotic when demonstrators broke chairs and pots in office space.
The march to the village began around noon and the protesters clashed with the police who tried to block their entry. Agitators did not concern, pushed around police barricades and threw themselves into the office. They screamed slogans, vandalized furniture and attacked the chamber of the municipal chairman Shibu Valappan.
After a short demonstration inside the Chamber of the Chamber, the group dispersed. After the incident, the police filed a case against approximately 15 individuals on the basis of a complaint filed by the city secretary.
The protest was a reaction to the incident previous day in Koodappuzha, where he attacked and injured 12 people. Two of the victims – Liji (51 years) from Pulluparamba and Davies, 62 years old from Elinja Prapallissery – were admitted to the Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital, while others were treated in Chalakuda Hospital.
Witnesses said the stray dog attacked pedestrians from early morning. The dog was later found dead.
