The soil completely blocked the Thamarassery Ghat road, a vital section of the National Highway 766, which connects the districts of Kozhikode and Wayanad. The incident that occurred on Tuesday around 19:00 stopped all the movement of the vehicle.
A large volume of mud, rocks and trees near the view fell on the road near the ninth bend of hairpins. Although no injuries or victims were reported, the debris caused a section for vehicles and pedestrians. The authorities warned that the area remains dangerous because the rocks still fall occasionally.
After the incident, Wayanad and Kozhikode District, collectors imposed a ban on operation. There are units of police and fire brigades on the spot and it is an immediate focus on ensuring public safety and operation management. Officials and volunteers in Adivaram in Kozhikode and Lakkidi in Wayanad are working to redirect vehicles and prevent further overload. The commuters were recommended to avoid the Thamarassery route. Those who made urgent trips were asked to use alternative Ghat roads in Kuttiada or enthusias.
The timeline for clearing residues and re -opening the road has not yet been determined due to the risk of other landslides. Travelers were asked to be informed of the situation before planning trips.
