Lauren Price Poised to Become the Oleksandr Usyk of Women’s Boxing, Says Trainer Rob McCracken
Lauren Price has the potential to follow in the footsteps of Oleksandr Usyk and become a dominant force in women’s boxing, according to her trainer, Rob McCracken.
Price, like Usyk, is an Olympic gold medalist. As an amateur, she also claimed European and World Championship titles, showcasing her exceptional talent. Another similarity to Usyk is her move up from welterweight to middleweight, where she won Olympic gold and other accolades, proving her ability to succeed across weight divisions.
Usyk, the undisputed world champion at both cruiserweight and heavyweight, is the ultimate example of a fighter excelling in multiple weight classes. Price, still in the early stages of her professional career, is already the WBA welterweight world champion. Her aim is to become the undisputed champion at 147lbs by the end of this year.
The first major step toward that goal comes on Friday, March 7, when Price faces Natasha Jonas in a unification bout for the WBA, IBF, and WBC titles at the Royal Albert Hall, live on Sky Sports.
When asked if Price could become the Usyk of women’s boxing, McCracken responded, “Potentially, potentially yes.” McCracken, a highly respected coach, has guided the likes of Carl Froch and Anthony Joshua to the top of the professional ranks and has led GB Boxing to unprecedented Olympic success.
“She’s a super talent,” McCracken said of Price. “She proved that by winning everything as an amateur boxer, not just in the UK but worldwide—Worlds, Europeans, Olympics, everything. There’s a lot of work ahead, but she’s a real talent. She’s confident, naturally skilled, and physically strong.”
Price’s journey mirrors Usyk’s in many ways, and with her talent and determination, she could well carve out a similar legacy in women’s boxing.
